The scientific study, evaluation, and regulation of crop protection chemistry are rapidly developing in China and nearby Asian countries, particularly with respect to product quality, risk assessment, and food residues. There is a growing desire on the part of scientists, regulators, and industry leaders in the region to consider the applicability of international approaches for management of crop protection chemistry in support of a safe and abundant food supply. Increased participation of countries in the region with world trade in both agrochemicals and foods has also brought new challenges related to compliance with import standards applied by importing countries. The workshop will bring together regional and international experts to seek applicability of internationally harmonized approaches to crop protection chemistry within the context of regional agricultural and world trade needs. This crop protection chemistry workshop will be the 7th in a series of workshops co-sponsored by IUPAC since 1988, and will be combined in planning with the 3rd in a series of environmental symposia sponsored by BPS.
